About Our Church:

First Congregational Church of Los Angeles is the oldest English speaking Protestant Church in the city of Los Angeles.

Our mission statement is: To praise God, towork for God's kingdom, and to advance the Congregational Christian way of life through worship, education and involvement.

Katie has been a member of our church for almost 30 years. All EMail will be going to her home address. Any questions regarding the church can be directed through her and she will forward the information to them as they do not currently have EMail capability.

First Congregational Church of Los Angeles is an inner city church. We are member owned and member run. Our Senior Minister is The Rev. Steven E. Berry, D.D. We also have several ministers on staff. They are: the Rev. Rebecca Ver Straten-McSparran, M. Div. Asst. Minister of Membership, outreach and Christian Education; The Rev. William Gentry, M. Div., Asst. Minister of Youth/Chaplain of Pilgrim School; the Rev. Pieter Noomen, Th. Drs. Minister of Visitation; the Rev. Joan Laska, Licensed Minister; the Rev. Harry R. Butman, D.D. consulting Minister; Thomas Somerville, D.M.A., Minister of Music; Clinton L. Carbon, Headmaster of Pilgrim School, Robert B. Brown, Director of Operations.

Our services are held at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each Sunday morning. The 9:00 a.m. service is held in our Shatto Chapel and is an informal service. The 11:00 a.m. service is a liturgical service and held in our main sanctuary.

We host an active music series each year under the direction of Dr. Thomas Somerville. We also house the fifth largest drawknob pipe organ in the world and are the host to the southern California Organ Guild concert series and the Los Angeles Bach Festival. (This is part of our monthly "Chuck and Mike's Cafe" which is a social get together where we have a light luncheon and entertainment. Cost for lunch is $5.00 per person (sorry, no checks or credit cards). We usually have soup, sandwich, chips, drink and desert and great fun.--the choir gets a chance to show they can sing all kinds of music, both serious and funny.)
